Permanent Male Hair Removal

Meterosexual is finally going mainstream-at least in terms of permanent male hair removal. It still doesn’t look like the guys are accompanying their wives and girlfriends to the salon for a “let’s get waxed together date, honey” but that may not be far behind.

Electrolysis

Electrolysis offers so-called permanent results but there is no guarantee that there will be no re-growth and effectiveness may vary among men. Electrolysis is performed by a licensed technician and requires regular (usually weekly) appointments to attain the best results. However, since electrolysis weakens hairs at the root, growth will be retarded and, eventually, eliminated. Electrolysis is fairly pricey and very time-consuming so you may want to limit this procedure for smaller areas where you desire hair removal, such as getting rid of that unibrow once and for all.

Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal uses laser beams that destroy hair follicles. Best results occur with men who have fairly light skin and dark hair, since the laser beam is ‘attracted’ to the pigment in dark hair. If you get a sun-tan (not so good for your man-skin) you may want to get laser hair removal in the winter since a tan interferes with skin pigmentation and may lead to blistering or even permanent skin discoloration. Unfortunately, laser hair removal is not a good permanent male hair removal alternative for men with darker skin. For good candidates, laser hair removal is a good, albeit expensive, method of hair removal for both men and women. Depending on the part of your body that you wish smooth and sexy, this technique could get pretty pricey, with each session costing as much as a few hundred dollars.

Despite the costs and the slight pain (each zap feels like your skin is being snapped by a rubber band), laser hair removal remains one of the more popular methods for permanent male hair removal. According to one source, as of 2001, men represented 17.7% of the population that chose laser treatments, especially among the 35 to 50 age bracket. Laser hair removal is often the choice for athletic men who feel that excessive body hair may hinder their performance. Also, for men who want a tattoo on a part of their body that is covered with hair, laser hair removal is the preferred method for pre-tattoo hair removal. Laser may be the preferred method for eyebrow hair removal styling.

Alternative Permanent Male Hair Removal Techniques

In addition to the above permanent hair removal techniques, there are less drastic, less permanent techniques that many men opt for to deal with unwanted body hair. These include waxing, sugaring, tweezing, and shaving. Each of these techniques has its own unique pros and cons, including pain, cost and rate of hair re-growth.
